![]() Merimbula Public Jetty on the NSW South Coast has been reconstructed with more than $1 million of improvements, partly funded by NSW Maritime under the Better Boating Program to the value of $223,000. Reconstructed Jetty for Merimbula The newly reconstructed Merimbula Public Jetty was officially opened last month. The Merimbula Public Jetty reconstruction has been a significant project undertaken by Bega Valley Shire Council with support from all levels of government including NSW Maritime, which contributed $223,000 under the Better Boating Program. The Minister for Roads and Ports, Duncan Gay, said at the official opening: “This is an exciting project which has involved the total reconstruction of the jetty, including improved access, a larger deck area, and new non-slip mesh decking and lighting. “The project also includes the installation of a new floating pontoon which will improve access for smaller recreational craft and provides a disabled access gangway.” Merimbula Lake is a popular spot for a variety of boating activities. The Better Boating grants program helps regional communities plan for their future maritime infrastructure needs, making sure there are safe public facilities to help boaters get out and about on our waterways. Under the Better Boating Program, local councils and boating groups apply for grants to undertake a range of recreational boating projects providing improved access to NSW waterways. http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/mpd/infra_grants.html
