NSW Maritime presented inflatable lifejackets to Newman Senior Technical College as part of a broader program to promote lifejacket awareness.

NSW Maritime Promotes Lifejackets

NSW Maritime and its partner in safety, the Boating Industry Association, has continued with a program to deliver inflatable type lifejackets to the Marine Teachers Association of NSW and to Yachting NSW boating instructors.

NSW Maritime and the Boating Industry Association wanted to recognise the effort made by these organisations to educate and promote safety on our waterways and this led to the gift of lifejackets.

The donation also helped to raise awareness of the new lifejacket rules that came into effect on 1 November 2010. With almost 500,000 boat licence holders in NSW, it is important for all skippers to check there is a lifejacket on board for every person, and to ensure all on board wear them at times of heightened risk such as when boating alone or boating offshore.

Boating is one of Australia’s favourite recreational activities and following some simple rules gives skippers peace of mind and ensures their crew are safe.
